Serving our elders and neighbors with disabilities in Benton County

Services

Are you over 60 or have a disability? Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers (VIC) offers immediate assistance handling life’s daily living challenges. Even a temporary disability for individuals of any age is a reason.

Volunteer

Volunteer caregivers at VIC come from all walks of life and ages. They do not have to have any particular skill set, only the desire to help a fragile population meet the demands of daily life.

Donate

VIC is transitioning from a 100% volunteer-led and staffed nonprofit to one with paid professional leadership. Help us remain self-sustaining so we can continue serving the community for years to come.

Our Mission

We believe older adults in our community deserve the dignity of aging gracefully in the familiar surroundings of their own homes and that people with disabilities should have this same recognition. Our Mission is to help these two fragile groups of people live independently for as long as possible.

Testimonials

It is catastrophic not to be able to drive and be independent. VIC has been an amazing blessing for me and George. Kind and caring drivers have gotten us to and from appointments. Several have become dear friends. There are no words to express how grateful we are to VIC and the wonderful drivers who have added so much to our lives.

I lost my eyesight just as many friends were writing books. Ginger came to my rescue, reading for me. Through VIC, I not only heard those books, but I made a friend.

Who We Are

Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers (VIC) began in 1986 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit with the mission of helping seniors and individuals with disabilities manage routine challenges in their lives. The original inspiration to create VIC led to an agreement between eight Corvallis churches, each congregation providing volunteers to do this essential work.

Whether within each church community or the community at large, hundreds of VIC’s Volunteers have served hundreds of Care Receivers since this humanitarian outreach group’s inception. We are proud to be an interfaith organization dedicated to serving neighbors in need regardless of beliefs.

Friendly visiting and companionship

Friendly visiting and companionship

Isolation is a health risk. Everyone should have someone to talk to. Our friendly visits from VIC Volunteers are designed for this purpose. Time can be spent as desired, whether reading, playing a game, or simply talking.

Keeping the pantry and refrigerator stocked

Keeping the pantry and refrigerator stocked

Grocery shopping and obtaining household goods are basic needs for people living independently. Our VIC Volunteers will either go shopping on behalf of a Care Receiver or drive them to their store of choice so they can shop for themselves.

Transportation to run errands

Transportation to run errands

Many Care Receivers cannot drive themselves, so VIC Volunteers will assist with local errands and gladly offer access to necessary services and resources outside the home. That can include salon or service appointments or going to the post office.

Respite care for family caregivers

Respite care for family caregivers

Some of our Care Receivers have family or friends who care for them full-time, but those custodial caregivers also need personal time. Our VIC Volunteers will arrange an occasional visit while their in-home caregivers take time out for themselves.

How toGet Involved

You do not have to be affiliated with a church to volunteer with us. We only ask those who join our mission to be passionate about making a difference in the lives of the aging and disabled in Benton County.
